ADULT CLASSES

Exploring Portraits

Learn the basics of drawing realistic human and animal portraits. Basics of portrait drawing will be reviewed including gesture and implied movement; approaching portraits from different angles, profile, and traditional and full figure. Bring a 12-inch x 18 inch drawing pad, pencil, eraser, and an open mind to the first class. Photographic reference material will be utilized later in the semester.

Roman Chain Making

Students will learn how to make Roman Chain with Sterling Silver wire.  Links will be hand made by fusing and annealing.  Use of a mini kiln and mini torch will be taught.  Different patterns will be examined, and the history of Roman Chains will be explored.  Students will leave the class with at least a finished bracelet or necklace. Work may be done at home in between classes.  Amount of finished pieces depends on Student. Additional materials fees may apply, inquire upon registration.

World Art

This class will offer children the opportunity to experience the joys of learning about many different art forms from various cultures around the world. Students will construct projects based on the traditions and concepts of each unique culture including Indian block printing and fabric stamping, Celtic Knot work and Symbol painting, Eastern European Egg painting, West African coil bowls and more.

Introduction to Watercolor

Learn basic watercolor techniques and basic color theory using step-by-step. More advanced students may work on individual projects or paint along with the class. Basic drawing skills are suggested but not necessary. The following supplies will be required for this class: sketchbook, watercolor paper cold press 120lb, watercolor in tubes or pans, mixing trays or white dinner plates, watercolor brushes- 2 round (4/5, 10/12) and 2 flats (½”  & 1”), 2 jars or plastic cups and cloth towel.

Mosaics Hands On

In this class students will begin making mosaic works of art from day one! No prior experience necessary. Using various ceramic and glass tiles, broken dishes, mirror, river rocks, etc. students will create mosaics on objects of different shapes and sizes including but not limited to: boxes, mirror frames, earthen pots, a piece furniture of the students choice. At course end students will feel confident using the materials and tools of the trade and be ready to tackle projects independently! Additional materials fees may apply, inquire upon registration.

Arts and Crafts

Explore various methods of combining arts and crafts to make creative keepsakes and gifts. Through experimenting with hand sewing, painting, beadwork, personal photographs and other mixed media you'll create a wide variety of things to express your new and old skills, creativity and personality.  Whether you've been sewing, painting, or making crafts all your life, or just always wanted to, you'll develop new techniques to use with your unique skills.  Complete projects like a story telling flowerpot, mini memory "quilt"(does not require but can use sewing) and a relief collage picture frame. Additional materials fees may apply, inquire upon registration.

Photo Montage

Do you have beautiful or memorable photos, but you’re not sure what to do with them? Maybe you enjoy scrap booking, but you hate that your hard work sits hidden in a book. Photomontage is a course designed to combine crafting, photography and assemblage techniques to make custom works of art that showcase these photos. This class is for all skill levels and requires no previous experiences. All necessary materials are based on individual designs. Additional materials fees may apply, inquire upon registration.

Drawing and Painting Fundamentals

Explore the principals of design and the elements of art through art projects presented in easy to understand step-by-step instruction. Art history will be our inspiration as we explore: line, shape, color, pattern, space, form, etc. This class is geared toward beginning adult artists and may include some live model projects.

Ladies Wine & Cheese Art Night

Gather your friends, family, wine and cheese and come to Portside for some great Art Projects, Fun, Laughs and Good Conversation. Must be 21 years old.

Belly Dancing **6 weeks**

Come Learn the ancient and no so ancient art of belly dance. Spend one hour of dancing, fun, and fitness. Please wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes (non-rubber sole shoes or ballet slippers work best). Bring water and something to wrap around hips (a sarong or scarf). Beginners and intermediates only.
